KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) proposed that the government set up a sports university for the development of sports in the future.
MAF president Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the suggestion was among major decisions proposed and agreed by all affilaites during the federation’s annual general meeting, on Sunday.
Shahidan said the setting up of a sports university was important to ensure youths, especially school leavers, can continue to pursue their dreams in pursuit of sports excellence and ensure Malaysia will not be short of talent.
“I feel the time has come for the setting up of a dedicated sports university because the aspect of high performance sports excellence must be given priority and focus,” he said in a video clip that was uploaded in Facebook yesterday.
Shahidan added that he was ready to discuss the proposal with the Higher Education Ministry. — BERNAMA
