KUCHING: Security measures during the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA 2024, will be at optimum levels.
This was assured by the Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mancha Ata when asked regarding preparations and security issues for SUKMA.
He stated that preparations have been well underway ahead of the coming national event.
“We have indeed made our preparations. In terms of human resources, we have prepared sufficient manpower to be on duty during SUKMA later.
“There won’t be any problem in terms of that,” he said when met by reporters after officiating the ‘Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara’ (PJPN) Award Ceremony Series 3 and 4 at the Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) headquarters yesterday (July 30).
Commissioner Mancha stated that approximately 7,000 policemen, and security officers including People Volunteer’s Corp (Rela) personnel will be on duty during SUKMA.
However, the exact figure would be disclosed by the Sarawak Contingent Police headquarters (IPK) soon.
For the record, the 21st SUKMA will be held in Sarawak from Aug 17 to 24 this year.
The games will feature 488 events across 37 sports, and is expected to welcome 12,619 participants, including 9,927 athletes and 2,692 officials.
