SRI AMAN: A saloon car parked near Chung Hua Food Court here was slightly damaged after its engine suddenly caught fire today (July 31).

Fortunately, the fire did not spread to other parts of the vehicle in the 11.38am incident.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Sri Aman station were dispatched to the scene, about 7km away, after receiving a distress call.

However, upon arrival, they discovered that the fire was already extinguished by members of the public who had used a fire extinguisher.

It was reported that the fire caused about 10 per cent damages to the vehicle’s engine.

The team only ensured that there was no risk of reignition before concluding the operation at 12.10pm.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
