SERIAN: A total of nine projects worth RM1.09 million have been, are being, and will be implemented around Serian, benefiting the local community.

Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus said that all these projects are funded by the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) and carried out by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) and the Public Works Department (JKR).

“Today, we would like to thank DID for completing one of the projects in Kampung Hilir, Serian, namely the Repair Project for the Second Kampung Hilir Collapsed Road due to landslides.

“This is the second of two projects approved by JPBN related to landslides and riverbank collapses due to flooding in this village,” he told reporters here today.

Commenting further, John said the project was approved last year, involving an allocation of RM500,000 and has been completed.

He added that the second project, the Repair Project for the Second Kampung Hilir Collapsed Road, which was completed today, is a continuation of the first project with an additional allocation of RM70,000.

At the same time, John said that more than 4,000 residents in Kampung Hilir and Kampung Hulu here were affected by floods, and he had asked DID to review the drainage system of nearby rivers.

“Because of this, we are requesting the government to re-examine the problems faced by the residents here.

“And one of the initiatives that can be carried out is deepening the river, cleaning the river, and other measures,” he said.

In another development, John said that among the projects under JKR’s implementation are the Landslide Repair at Kampung Koran Mawang worth RM120,000, and the landslide repair at Kampung Koran Empaneg amounting to RM200,000.

Next is the landslide repair work at Kampung Rih Mawang worth RM120,000, which was recently approved, and the Fire Aid Assistance Project (BEKR) at Kampung Rih Daso amounting to RM35,000.
