MIRI: Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, has called on his constituents to remain vigilant against external influences.
He warned against outsiders attempting to spread negative propaganda under the guise of dialogue sessions with longhouse communities.
“Please notify me or the District Officer if any NGO from the peninsula wants to conduct programmes in the longhouse areas,” said Dr Penguang who is Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government.
“We don’t want them to bring unhealthy activities to our community.”
His call follows reports that Suhakam, along with a politician from the peninsula, plans to visit two longhouses in Bakong (Tuai Rumah Juliana Isah’s longhouse and Puyot Lubok Nibong (Pemanca Randi’s longhouse) in August.
“If Suhakam plans to come to your area, residents should inform me immediately,” Dr Penguang reiterated.
“Please report to me or directly to the district offices to prevent any potential issues.”
He made these remarks during the handover of Minor Rural Project (MRP) cheques to 44 recipients, involving a sum of RM 408,000, here on Wednesday.
The recipients included village or longhouse security and development committees, village mosques or surau, women’s bureaus, NGOs, associations, and others.
This MRP initiative is the second allocation this year, aimed at supporting community activities.
