Teen fined RM1,000 for possessing stolen motorcycle

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a 19-year-old boy RM1,000 in default one month in prison for possessing a stolen motorcycle in May.

The teenager pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to the charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries up to five years imprisonment and a fine, upon conviction.

Zubaidah handed down the sentence after reviewing a social report from the Social Welfare Department today (Aug 1).

He was charged with possessing a stolen property in front of a house at Jalan Samariang at around 4 pm on May 3.

Based on the case facts, on April 22, around 4 pm, the complainant noticed that his father’s Honda motorcycle was missing from the parking space in front of Plaza Astana. The estimated loss was around RM1,000.

Later, the complainant filed a police report for further action.

The offender was arrested on May 3 as he was suspected of being involved in the case. Police also recovered the motorcycle in his possession.

Investigations confirmed the motorcycle belonged to the complainant’s father, identified by its engine chassis number.

ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case, while the offender was unrepresented by counsel.
