KUCHING: Business entities that are dealing with greenhouse gases (GHG) in the scheduled economic sectors are required to register with the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) and submit a GHG report by the end of August this year.
NREB in its statement said currently, 19 business entities in the energy, oil and gas sectors are registered with them.
Approximately 30 participants from the energy, oil and gas sectors attended the recent engagement session focused on the requirements of the GHG reporting guidelines.
“The recently enforced Environment (Reduction of Greenhouse Gases) Ordinance 2023 marks a significant milestone in Sarawak’s journey towards environmental sustainability.
“However, its full implementation is still underway, with more rules and guidelines to be developed for effective enforcement. Therefore, this session with the business entities is an essential part of this ongoing process.
“The insights and suggestions from industry players are crucial to ensure that the guidelines are practical, effective, and aligned with industry capabilities and realities,” NREB said in its press statement.
NREB added that the successful engagement session highlighted the commitment of industrial players to align with the state’s goal of achieving Net-Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 as part of the global effort to control climate change.
