SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Community Development Committee has been specially granted Rural Transformation Project (RTP) fund amounting to more than RM200,000 for usage of improvement works on four projects at the west bank of the town.
Yesterday (Aug 1), the committee leader, Cr. Kevin Lau Kor Jie with his members and Sibu Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) officials went to the four areas for the handover of project plans to the contractors responsible for the works.
According to him, the improvement works are to be undertaken on Jalan Chew Kung, Jalan Kiong Kiong, installation of gabion retaining wall, wooden plankwalk at Peter Tinggom longhouse, and jetty walkway at Everly Bajut longhouse.
He said the special RTP fund was approved by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“These project applications are one of the demands that the committee members received from local residents every time they visited the countryside. We forwarded the applications to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who assisted in submitting the proposal to the Premier.
“In last April, he successfully obtained the permission of the Premier to allocate a special RTP fund for the improvement works at the four areas,” he stated.
Lau hoped that after the completion of the relevant projects, the living environment of local residents there could be improved and facilitate their daily life.
At the same time, he also emphasised that he would lead the team members to continue serving the residents of Bawang Assan and try their best to improve the overall quality of the residents’ living environment.
