Extinguishing works are being carried out by firefighters to douse the fire that damaged a container lorry transporting solar panels.

BETONG: A container lorry transporting solar panels to Batang Ai, was damaged in a morning fire near Kampung Jelukong, Jalan Lubok Antu today (Aug 4).

In addition, the solar panels inside the container were also affected.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Betong station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.21 am.

The lorry, driven by a 43-year-old man, was heading to Lubok Antu from Kuching when the incident happened.

After noticing smoke billowing from the rear tyres of his lorry, the driver pulled over to the side of the road and separated the lorry with container as a precaution.

Upon the team’s arrival, the extinguishing works were promptly carried out using water and foam from their fire truck.

Once the situation was deemed safe and there was no risk of reignition, the team concluded the operation.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
