TEBEDU: A joint Malaysia-Indonesia army patrol resulted in the seizure of 12 bags of ‘Super White Rice’ left unattended on Monday (Aug 5).
The First Infantry Division said the seizure was made around 1.05 pm at an illegal route, about 100m from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
During a routine patrol, a team of Malaysian and Indonesian soldiers spotted six black packages, which were left unattended under a tree.
“Further inspections led to the discovery of 12 bags of 10kg ‘Super White Rice’. The rice, estimated to be worth around RM342, was intended to be smuggled out to the neighbouring country,” the division said.
The division confirmed that a police report was lodged at Tebedu police station, and the seized goods were handed over to the Tebedu Customs Division for further action.
In light of this, the army reiterated its commitment to strengthening border control measures along the Malaysia-Indonesia border to safeguard the state’s sovereignty against illegal entries, smuggling, and cross-border criminal activities.
