KUCHING: An original motion picture soundtrack for Borih, the Bidayuh Paddy Priestess has been released on several platforms including YouTube Music, Apple Music, and Spotify.
The soundtrack which features original music compositions by Andrew Bong, who also created soundtracks for Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal, Framed Memories, and Dalang’s Tale, highlights the cultural significance of preserving the tradition of the Borneo Bidayuh culture.
Producer Joey Lee said Borih’s soundtrack comprises rhythmic spiritual chants, melodic gong, and ambient sounds, creating a deeply immersive and out-of-the-world experience.
“I truly cherish the masterpiece of Bong’s music composition, which connects us with our cultural identity and the future”, he said in a press release recently.
Lee said Borih, the Bidayuh Paddy Priestess is a Sarawak animated short film produced in 2022 by Passionate World and animated by Flystudio.
The short film is supported by Ventura Interactive, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), Sarawak Digital and Innovation, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation as well as Laundry Music.
“Borih, the Bidayuh Paddy Priestess was recently nominated for best Borneo Category at the 20th Mini Film Festival 2024. The animated short film will also be coming to the big screen nationwide Q4 2024,” he said.
At the same time, Lee encouraged the public to explore the hidden world of Borneo with the enchanting chants of the local Dayung Borih, the mythical gongs, and beautiful flute melodies by multi-instrumentalist Burak Besir.
Lee pointed out that Burak has played on shows such as Netflix’s One Piece and The Witcher.
