KUCHING: The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) is dedicated to ensuring that the state’s defence and security are always guaranteed.

Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that the ministry has formulated a defence empowerment plan for Sarawak covering the period from 2024 to 2030.

“This initiative includes development projects and upgrades to military assets with an estimated cost of nearly RM500 million, covering the army, air force, and navy sectors,” he said.

He said this when met by the media after a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Thursday.

The courtesy visit was mainly to discuss the said projects and strengthen the cooperation between the Sarawak government and MINDEF.

Meanwhile, he emphasised that the Premier fully supports the proposed initiative, and both parties have agreed to establish a joint team to ensure the smooth implementation of upcoming projects.

Earlier, he also said that the federal government would allocate RM42 million for the maintenance of military personnel housing in Sarawak.
