KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching has extended support to a single mother, Rita Tanggei, 44, who is battling ovarian cancer while caring for her disabled daughter, Mang, 17.
The non-governmental organisation (NGO) reported that Rita and Mang are facing significant challenges in their 6th Mile home.
Rita is undergoing chemotherapy at Sarawak General Hospital for ovarian cancer and severe asthma.
Her condition has caused blurred vision, red and watery eyes, and extreme fatigue, which severely impacts her ability to walk or lift heavy objects.
Mang, who has an intellectual disability, was previously enrolled in a boarding school but was traumatised by bullying, leading her to become reclusive and fearful of strangers.
Rita expressed her sadness over Mang’s drastic change, noting that her daughter used to enjoy school before the incident.
Despite her health struggles, Rita continues to work part-time at a coffee shop, earning approximately RM800 monthly.
However, her frequent absences due to chemotherapy and pain have affected her income.
She also receives RM200 monthly from social welfare, but the combined burden of rent, medical expenses, and transportation has left her struggling financially.
Hope Place has provided Rita and Mang with essential food supplies to help alleviate their hardships.
Individuals wishing to assist Rita and Mang can make donations directly to Hope Place or Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK) by calling 082-505987 or 013-5672775.
Contributions can also be made via bank transfer to MBB account number 511289001160 or through the Sarawak Pay/S PAY GLOBAL QR code available on their Facebook page.
“Your support can greatly impact Rita and Mang’s lives, helping them through their challenging circumstances and improving their quality of life,” said Hope Place.
