SEBUYAU: Swift actions by workers from an engineering consultant firm managed to save a three-door workers’ quarters from being engulfed in flames today (Aug 11).
The incident happened at 12.09am in Kampung Beliong, involving an aluminium container quarters wrapped in fibre wool.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as two tenants successfully evacuated to safety.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Simunjan station were dispatched to the scene, about 72km away, after receiving a distress call.
Upon arrival, they found that the flames had already been doused by other workers using 17 dry powder fire extinguishers.
The team took over to ensure that the fire was completely out, using water from their vehicle.
Once the situation was deemed safe and there was no risk of reignition, the team ended the operation at 2.23am.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
