SELANGAU: A two-vehicle collision along Jalan Selangau-Tatau, claimed the life of an elderly woman this morning (Aug 11).

The deceased, identified as Dijah Lalei, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the accident, involving a Proton Saga and a Mitsubishi Pajero, happened around 6.30 am near Sungai Anus Sepiring.

Firefighters from Selangau station together with police, paramedics and Civil Defence Force (APM) were dispatched to the scene upon receiving an alert regarding the fatal crash.

Upon arrival, they found Dijah trapped in the backseat of the Saga and extrication works were carried out.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to the hospital for post-mortem procedures.

Meanwhile, the male driver and another female passenger of the Saga, who sustained injuries, managed to exit the vehicle on their own.

As for the occupants in the Pajero, it was not known how many individuals were inside the vehicle.
