SIBU: The media centre for the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) officially opened on today (Aug 11) to serve media practitioners here.

Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Sibu divisional officer Jelani Ajang, said it is designed not only to provide accurate and timely information about Sukma XXI but also to support journalists in covering the event comprehensively.

“At this media centre, we offer crucial information, such as competition results, schedules, and the latest updates on Sukma.

“This service is particularly useful for media personnel who are unable to attend the competition venues. We are committed to providing as much assistance as possible to ensure that reporters can deliver thorough coverage of the sports events in Sibu,” he said.

He said this after a briefing session for Sibu media practitioners at the Sibu Media Centre at the Indoor Stadium.

A total of 20 media practitioners attended the briefing session.

Jelani, who is also Sibu media centre director, said the media centre would operate in two phases, as Sibu is hosting three sports events: football, badminton, and indoor volleyball.

“Phase 1 will run from Aug 11 to 16, during which the media centre will be open from 8am to 6pm. During this phase, we will be covering the football preliminary round.

“Phase 2, from Aug 17 to 24, will see the media centre open from 8am to 10pm, as some badminton and indoor volleyball matches are scheduled for the evening,” he explained.

However, he assured that the media centre would remain open beyond regular hours if any events extend past 10pm.

He also encouraged the public to download the Sukma XXI app, available on the App Store, Google Play, and Huawei AppGallery, for the latest updates on the games.

“We will share a variety of information, including schedules and medal tallies, through the app,” he said.
