MUKAH: A total of RM4.2 billion has been allocated for projects in the Mukah Division, encompassing initiatives under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), Projek Rakyat, Alternative Funding (AF), and the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the projects included the construction of Batang Igan, Paloh, and Muara Lassa bridges which are expected to be completed by 2026.

“These bridges will eventually connect all areas in the Rajang areas, including those under the administration of Mukah Division.

“These projects involve significant investments but will have a considerable impact on the infrastructure we are developing in the local authority areas, particularly in terms of water and electricity supply.

“Overall, the projects are progressing smoothly and are expected to be completed by 2026,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after attending the Sarawak Development Co-ordination Committee meeting at the Mukah Division Administration Office here on Wednesday.

On a related note, Abang Johari said that the projects being implemented by RADDA are worth RM705 million.

“RADDA has a clear direction in expanding economic and social activities in the Rajang Delta, including education.

“Mukah alone has many higher education institutions such as Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) Laila Taib Campus, which offers marine engineering programmes.

“Besides that, we also have the Centre for Technology Excellence (CENTEXS) Mukah, Mukah Polytechnic and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak Campus in Mukah.

“This means that Mukah has the facilities to develop our education system,” he explained.

Looking ahead, Abang Johari affirmed that the state is on track to meet its 2030 targets based on the feedback from the Mukah division. “The next Sarawak Development Coordination Committee meeting  will focus on the Sarikei division, which is also under RADDA’s jurisdiction.

“We are committed to ensuring that these projects are implemented well, and so far, everything is progressing smoothly,” he said.
