KUCHING: Sarawak’s tenpin bowling team made an impressive start in the first squad of the doubles singles event at Sukma XXI, with both the men’s and women’s competitors putting on stellar performances to set the stage for potential gold.
In the men’s singles, Fan Yew Tsen emerged as the standout performer, delivering a commanding 1301-point game to secure the top spot.
His exceptional skill on the lanes allowed him to overtake early leader Syed Amsyar Ghazi of Kedah, who initially led with 863 points but was later outpaced by Selangor’s Ridhar Rahman Riza Abdullah that garnered a 1223 point.
Meanwhile, the women’s singles saw another strong showing from Sarawak, with Nur Hazirah Ramli dominating the competition.
She amassed 1261 points, thanks to a series of strikes that pushed her into first place. Her narrow margin over Pahang’s Nur Aisya Nadhirah, who closely followed with 1219 points, has left local supporters eagerly anticipating a home victory.
Adding to the excitement, Claudia Kumang Jakson made a remarkable comeback. Initially in 9th place, she clawed her way up to third with a total of 1164 points, showcasing her resilience and determination.
The day’s action is far from over, with the competition set to resume as Squad 2 takes to the lanes at 12.30 pm at Megalanes E-mart Batu Kawa.
