BETONG: A road accident near Rumah Panjang Maja, along the Jalan Layar-Pan Borneo Betong route, claimed the lives of two individuals and left two others injured this afternoon (Aug 15).
The accident occurred at approximately 3.20 pm involving a Nissan Navara travelling from Miri to Sri Aman and a Perodua Kancil attempting a U-turn at a nearby junction collided into each other.
According to a report from the Betong Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), there were four passengers in the Perodua Kancil.
Amieyra Madu, a 16-year-old passenger, was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters but was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Another passenger, 33-year-old Azian Mazuan Ahmad, also died at the scene.
The other two passengers, 76-year-old Henry Malang Tedung and 10-year-old Elmiera Nathssya, sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Sri Aman Hospital for further medical attention.
The driver of the Nissan Navara was not found at the scene, and no information regarding the identity or condition was available at the time of the report.
