KUCHING: A 40-year-old male escaped death when the four-wheel-drive vehicle he drove veered off the road and crashed into a steep roadside ditch along Jalan Kuala Tatau in Kampung Jepak.

Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a call on the incident at 10.22 pm on Aug 15 and dispatched a team to the scene.

“The driver managed to exit the vehicle on his own before the arrival of the Bomba personnel. They used a scoop stretcher to bring the injured driver back to the roadside for medical treatment.

“He was then transported to the nearest medical facility in an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle,” it said.

Just minutes later, at 10.36 pm, another emergency call was received, regarding a fire at a plastic gunter stockpile owned by WCT Construction along KM 34 of the Pan Borneo Highway between Bintulu and Tatau which prompted the dispatch of a team from Tatau Fire Station.
