SIBU: The Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) International Night serves as an important platform to foster relationships that transcend geographical and cultural boundaries.
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley said that the event not only celebrates the living cultures of Borneo but also the rich traditions from neighbouring countries.
“The importance of understanding and embracing cross-border cultures cannot be overstated. Such exchanges allow us to appreciate differences and find common ground,” he said in his speech when officiating the programme at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang here last night.
He added that the event serves as a crucial platform for learning from one another, sharing unique stories, and celebrating the diverse expressions of human creativity.
“By participating in events like this, we strengthen the bonds that tie us together and enrich our global community,” he said.
He expressed hope that the festival would continue to attract strong participation from neighbouring countries in the coming years.
“The talent and energy displayed here tonight are a testament to the extraordinary cultural wealth each of us brings to the global stage.
“For many, this event offers a rare opportunity to experience the beauty of other cultures first-hand.
“And for our children, it provides a chance to grow up with a deep appreciation for the diverse heritage of the world,” he added.
Also present were Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts deputy permanent secretary Desmond Jerukan, SMC chairman Clarence Ting, and others.
