MIRI: The Sarawak Sukma Karate team will conduct a post-mortem following their failure to secure a medal in the Kata Female Individual event.

This was disclosed by team coach, Al-Harrir, during a press conference after the conclusion of the event on today.

Despite the loss, coach Al-Harrir praised the efforts of Sarawak’s representative, Annabelle Ping Balan, 19, who appeared devastated after her performance.

“Annabelle has done her best. We will analyze what went wrong and see what needs to be improved. We’ll also conduct post-mortem training sessions to identify the areas where we are lacking,” he said.

He added that while Annabelle’s performance was commendable, there were factors that hindered her from securing a medal.

“I’m sure the performance was good, but it’s just that it didn’t translate into a win. Mental strength is a crucial aspect in competitions like this. We need to focus on more exposure and improving our athletes’ mentality to compete at this level,” he explained.

Annabelle, who won a bronze medal in the same event during Sukma 2022, had aimed for a better outcome this year, with the team setting a target of reaching the finals. However, it was not meant to be.

Annabelle’s performance and the team’s subsequent analysis are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future strategy of the Sarawak’s Sukma Karate team.
