MIRI: A new recreational park is being developed at Friendship Garden Street 1 here, with the project expected to be completed by September 30, 2024.

The construction, which began on July 1, was part of a community initiative to enhance local public facilities.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, along with a team from the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Piasau Service Centre, recently visited the site to monitor the progress of the project.

Ting has allocated RM100,000 for the development of the park, which will feature enhanced facilities aimed at promoting fitness and outdoor activities.

The park will include a running track, fitness equipment, foot massage stones, and other amenities to beautify the area.

There will be six units of sports equipment such as seesaw, two-person high bar, swing, fitness riding machine, outdoor fitness walking machine and sit-up station.

Speaking about the project, Ting emphasised that the initiative was not only aimed at improving the environmental quality of the park but also to promote social interaction and a healthy lifestyle among the communities.

He expressed hope that this effort would encourage greater public participation in the maintenance and management of public facilities from Miri residents.

Ting also indicated his ongoing commitment to supporting similar community-building projects and called on private companies, government agencies and members of the public to collaborate in creating a healthier and better living environment for Miri.
