KUCHING: The second round of the SUKMA Golf Competition at Kelab Golf Sarawak featured remarkable performances from the top golfers, setting the stage for an exciting final round tomorrow.

Sarawak’s Mirabel Ting extended her lead in the women’s individual standings with a stellar 5-under-par 67, bringing her two-day total to 8-under-par 136.

Her consistent performance has positioned her as the player to beat heading into the final round.

Kuala Lumpur’s Ng Jing Xuen delivered a solid 1-under-par 71, bringing her two-day total to even-par 144, securing second place. Perak’s Wang Xin Yao maintained her third-place position with consistent rounds of 73, 73, totaling 2-over-par 146.

Ting expressed confidence after yesterday’s round, stating, “I’m thrilled with how I played today. The course has been challenging, but I feel I’m in a great rhythm. Tomorrow is going to be crucial, and I’m ready to give it my all.”

In the men’s division, Selangor’s Ajmal Amin delivered an outstanding performance, carding a remarkable 9-under-par 63, bringing his two-day total to 7-under-par 137.

This has catapulted him into the lead, with Sarawak’s Anson Yeo in close pursuit at 5-under-par 139, following rounds of 71 and 68. Tied for third are Perak’s Aiden Tai and Perlis’s Hariz Hezri, both at 1-over-par 145.

In the women’s team event, Team Perak has taken the lead with a combined score of 20-over-par 452, thanks to strong performances from Wang Xin Yao (73, 73), Nur Diana Syafiqah (78, 73), Siti Nur Husna (81, 74), and Nurul Adawiyah (86, 78).

Team Sarawak, which led after the first round, has dropped to second place with a combined score of 25-over-par, represented by Mirabel Ting (69, 67), Sharifah Aiysyah (77, 80), and Abigail Kedung (85, 79). Team Selangor is in third place with a combined score of 33-over-par.

In the men’s team event, Team Selangor surged into the lead with a score of 4-over-par 436, bolstered by Ajmal Amin’s sensational round and consistent performances from teammates Poon Jia Hao (76, 70), Austin Gan (76, 78), and Ezekiel Riz Hafi (75, 80).

Team Sarawak holds second place at 13-over-par 445, represented by Anson Yeo (71, 68), Joshua Lim (76, 71), Cayden Kong (79, 80), and Wesley Chai (87, 90). Team Perak is in third place with a total of 15-over-par 447.

The final round of the SUKMA Golf Competition will commence today (Aug 18) at 7.30 am.
