KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Sarawak futsal team is gearing up for their biggest challenge yet as they prepare to face Federal Territory in the quarter-finals of the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI).
The much-anticipated clash is set to take place at the Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium tomorrow (Aug 19).
Sarawak’s head coach Mohd Faizal Zamri is determined to guide his squad through the quarter-finals with minimal mistakes, ensuring the players capitalise on every opportunity.
“Our focus today is on reducing the mistakes we made previously as we gear up to face the Federal Territory.
“We’ve met them before on the national stage in the Malaysian Futsal League Second Division, which ended in a 3-3 draw.
“This time, we will give our all to secure a victory in the quarter-finals,” he told the media during a training session at the Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
Faizal emphasised that his team would give their best effort, fuelled by the desire to make Sarawakian supporters proud and to carve their names into the history books once more.
Victory in the quarter-finals will bring Sarawak face-to-face with an even tougher opponent—the winner of the match between Group A champions Terengganu and Melaka.
Adding to the excitement, tomorrow’s quarter-final lineup also sees Selangor, another Group A champion, squaring off against Melaka, while Penang will take on Pahang.
All matches will be held at the Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium.
The stakes are high, with the final showdown for the gold medal and the third-place decider scheduled for this Friday (Aug 23), at the same venue.
Sarawak enters this crucial phase after finishing second in Group B with eight points from four matches—two wins and two draws.
With the whole of Sarawak rallying behind them, the squad is poised to give their best performance and hopefully bring home the glory.
