SRI AMAN: Six local men, including three elderly, found themselves in hot water after being rounded up for their alleged involvement in a cockfighting session.

Yesterday (Aug 18), the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) conducted a raid under ‘Op Dadu’ at an oil palm plantation along Jalan Ulu Skrang around 3.30 pm.

Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said that the raid uncovered an open area being turned into an illegal cockfighting arena.

“A group of men, in the middle of the activity, was caught off guard by the sudden police presence, and they scrambled into a nearby forest in a desperate bid to escape.

“However, six of them, aged between 25 and 69, were swiftly arrested while, the rest managed to flee.

“Also seized during the raid were four roosters, one of them dead, a weighing scale, a betting board, a plastic table, plastic chairs and two spurs,” he said.

The suspects along with the seized items were taken to the CID office for further action.

Mathew said the case is being investigated under Section 73 (g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999.
