KUCHING: The Sarawak taekwondo team dominated the welterweight, middleweight, and heavyweight finals on the third day of the taekwondo event at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA 2024).

Held in Stadium Perpaduan on Sunday (Aug 18) here, the Sarawak team manage to obtained a total of four gold, one silver and two bronze medal.

The first gold medal came from Pretty Amisha Amanda Francesca, who defeated Nurul Aesyah Aqilah Mohd Sukeri from Selangor 2-0 in the women heavyweight category (73 kg and above).

Gold No. 2 came from Mohamad Zulhafiz Zulhadi, who defeated Lim Jia Wei from Federal Territories 2-0 in the men’s heavyweight category (87 kg and above).

The third gold came from Puteri Durratun Zulaikha Samat, who defeated Fu Chervyn from Terengganu 2-0 in the women’s middleweight category (73kg), and the fourth gold was won by Aj Yang Yi Ong, who also secured a 2-0 victory against Nur Putra Adam Azlan Noor Azlan from the Federal Territories in the men’s middleweight category (under 87kg).

Despite her strong efforts and tough competition, Christine Ying Zhen Li was defeated by Nadia Aina Syazwani Ishak from Perlis, losing 0-2 and securing only a silver medal in the women’s welterweight category (under 67kg).

Soon Hian Chai managed to obtain bronze medal after losing to Keng Xian Hong from Federal Territories in the semifinal men’s middleweight category (under 80 kg).
