BINTULU: Mifdhal Wafiy Ayatullah won another gold medal in the male’s Wai Kru final and plans to use the second RM15,000 incentive as savings for his studies and future investments.

The 17-year old lad from Kota Samarahan dedicated his victory to Sarawak.

“This gold medal at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) was unexpected. It is  for Sarawak,” he told Sarawak Tribune today (Aug 19).

Mifdhal was brimming with joy after he was announced the winner of the Wai Kru final.

His commanding performance was displayed after he defeated his opponent Muhammad Iftikhar Syahlan from Sabah.

Mifdhal scored a solid 9.00 while his Sabah opponent scored 8.80.

Mifdhal’s father, Ayatullah Sapawi attributed the victory to the guidance of the coach and his son’s determination to win.

“I would like to thank the coach and other parents for guiding them (athletes), joining them and rallying behind them right here in Bintulu.

“Their sacrifices have ensured this success,” he said.
