MIRI: Sarawak’s contingent chef de mission (CDM) Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu has acknowledged receiving complaints during the ongoing 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) but assured that the situation is under control.

“There may be complaints, but as the host in Sarawak, we are doing everything possible to ensure a smooth experience,” Rentap said.

He was pleased with the event’s preparations and the Sarawak team’s cooperation.

“We were delighted with the preparations and the warm reception we have received here,” he added, noting the positive atmosphere during a recent visit with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

Rentap also addressed concerns about athlete welfare, particularly regarding food and weather conditions.

Meanwhile, a media practitioner faced difficulties accessing the Silat event at the Miri Indoor Stadium despite having an all-access pass.

Rentap emphasised the importance of media access and assured that steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents.

“Our main concern is not just the health and safety of our athletes but also ensuring that those who play a crucial role in reporting and covering the games are supported in their roles,” he added.
