KUCHING: Sarawak advanced to the next round in the men’s T10 cricket category after a rain-affected draw with Perak.
According to the men’s cricket coach Chew Pok Cheong, this year’s Sukma marks the first time Sarawak is hosting the T10 event, adding an extra layer of excitement and suspense to the tournament.
Chew shared insights into the team’s preparations, expectations, and the unique challenges posed by the T10 format.
“This is a new game, and it’s still open for everyone; because it’s the first time being hosted in Sarawa, every team has an equal chance,” he said.
The T10 format, he added, a shorter version of the more familiar T20, involves just 10 overs per side, which amounts to approximately 100 balls, compared to the 120 balls in T20 cricket.
“T10 is more fast-paced, there’s no time to waste; players need to go in and hit right from the start. The game can be over before you know it.
“Our first target is to clinch the T10 title, it’s open to everybody, and that’s our top priority, with just a few minor changes in the roster, the Sarawak squad is banking on their familiarity with both formats and their ability to adapt quickly to the T10’s demands.
“There’s no significant difference in the players; it’s more about adjusting to the shorter timeframe and the pressure that comes with it,” Chew said.
