KUCHING: Sarawak’s eRacing team ended their 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) by bagging the silver medal in the Double Team Race category today (Aug 22).
Muhammad Hamdany Abdul Hamid, 21, and Jeff Qi Rui Tan, 14, delivered the state’s first silver in the eSports event.
Perak’s Abdul Yazid Imran Abdul Razak and Muhammad Hasif Zainal Abidin bagged the gold medal while, Melaka’s Aisy Amani Zikry Azmi and Muhammad Hakim Suhaimi won the bronze medal.
The 45-lap Double Team Race, which lasted for 1 hour 30 minutes, was held at the Sepang Grand Prix.
Sarawak’s first driver Hamdany led the race for about 12 laps after overtaking race leader Perak.
Hamdany entered the pit lane for a driver swap and second driver Jeff took over the race; however, the latter was not able to maintain pole position as Perak was quick in their driver swap and they retake the lead.
With 22 minutes left, Sarawak decided to take a gamble and stayed out to take pole to build a gap between Perak after the pole sitter headed into the pit lane for a driver swap.
Eventually, Sarawak headed into the pit lane for a driver swap in Lap 34, but conceded the pole position to Perak.
Sarawak maintained their second position for the rest of the race as they could not close the 14-second gap with Perak.
The medal presentation for all the eSports events will be held on Saturday (Aug 24).
