KUCHING: The Sarawak eSports contingent’s quest for gold at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) has reached its end after eFootball player Hazwan Faiq Hailwan was defeated by Kedah in the semi-finals today (Aug 23).

However, the quest for a medal is not over yet for Sarawak as the host state still has to face Johor’s Aieman Shaffrie Salleh Huddin in the bronze medal match.

The bronze medal match is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Aug 24).

The 21-year-old Sarawakian lost to Kedah’s Muhammad Hariz Hazmi Hakimin, 2-0.

In their first semi-final match, Kedah took a commanding 3-1 victory by scoring in the 17th minute, 35th minute and 86th minute, while Sarawak only scored in the 82nd minute.

Muhammad Hariz continued to dominate the second match by winning 2-0 with goals scored in the 2nd minute and in the 57th minute.

Earlier, Hazwan secured his spot in the semi-finals by defeating Pahang’s Muhammad Hafiy Mohd Ramlan in an exciting 2-1 quarter-final match.

In the first quarter-final match, Pahang took a 1-0 victory, scoring in the 91st minute. Hazwan responded by winning the second match 1-0 with a goal in the 47th minute.

With the score tied at 1-1, Sarawak managed to beat Pahang in the decider match after a goal was scored in the 8th minute, the lead later doubled in the 25th minute, and the win was sealed with a third goal in the 70th minute.
