KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak’s hopes for a medal in the final chess event of the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XXI were dashed on Friday when the host state’s men’s blitz team lost in a tiebreaker to Johor, securing bronze for the southern state.

Penang emerged as the dominant force in the chess competition, claiming two gold medals, four silver, and one bronze.

Their golds came in both the men’s and women’s blitz categories.

Selangor also performed well, securing two golds and two silvers.

Meanwhile, Johor, Melaka, and Perak each won a bronze medal in the men’s blitz, women’s blitz, and women’s team standard categories, respectively.

The medal ceremony was officiated by the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.
