KAPIT: Members of Kapit Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners Association (Kapit CSROA) are reminded to keep their eating outlets clean at all times.
They must comply with the health requirements as stipulated under the council’s local authorities by-laws, said Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat.
“No doubt the ultimate goal in business is to make profit. However, there should not be any compromise as far as cleanliness, safety and quality are concerned.
“In this respect, food and coffee shop operators need to work closely with the local authority especially Kapit District Council and the relevant agency such as the Health Department to ensure that food outlets are clean and the food are safe for consumption as well as adhere to the Food and Regulations 1999 and Food Acts 1983,” he said while officiating at Kapit Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners Association 3-in-1 gathering to celebrate the New Year, the association’s 42nd Anniversary and the 21st installation of the committee members on Tuesday evening.
Jamit also pointed out that food and coffee shops also helped to project an image for Kapit, be it good or bad.
“Eateries and coffee shops are common places for people to meet and eat. In short, they are places where unity in a multiracial community is manifested as we can see people from different racial backgrounds work together at coffee shops to serve their customers.”
On the celebration, Jamit congratulated Kapit CSROA for organising the annual activity to serve as an appreciation to the members for their hard work and success in the association over the past one year and also to acknowledge the newly-formed committee who has been given the mandate to lead the association for another term.
He was happy to note that Kapit CSROA, as one of the oldest Chinese based associations in Kapit, has progressed well under various chairmen over the years and has made its presence felt not only for the benefit of the members but also the people of Kapit in general. He also called on Kapit CSROA to work together with other non-governmental organisations in town to complement the government’s effort to provide social and community services to the people of Kapit.
At the function, Jamit announced a government grant of RM 10,000 for the association to run its activities this year. He also chipped in another RM5,000 for the renovation works of the conference room of Kapit CSROA here.
Among those present at the function were Malaysia-Singapore General Merchant Coffee and Restaurant Association president Datuk Ho Tze Meng, association adviser Larry Sng Wei Shien, who is Julau MP and also Sarawak Pepper Board chairman, Federated Sarawak Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners’ Association president Hii Fung Yong and Kapit Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners Association president Ma Thian Ho.
