This victory marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time in 30 years that Sarawak has claimed the top spot in the national multi-sport event.
Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, confirmed the results and expressed his pride in the outstanding performance of Sarawak’s athletes.
“The final tally clearly shows that Sarawak is the overall champion after a long 30-year wait,” he said when contacted by Sarawak Tribune on Saturday.
When asked about the possibility of declaring a public holiday on Monday to celebrate the victory, Abdul Karim stated that the decision rests with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“Only the Premier can decide on that,” he added.
