SELANGAU: A driver and his passenger narrowly escaped death after their pickup truck crashed along Mile 62, Sepiring here yesterday (Aug 24).
The accident occurred at 4.59pm when the vehicle skidded and slammed into a roadside traffic sign post.
Firefighters from the Selangau station were dispatched to the scene, about 26km away, after receiving a distress call.
Upon arrival, they discovered the driver trapped in his seat, while his passenger had already been rescued by the public and rushed to the Selangau health clinic.
The team used rescue tools to safely free the driver from the severely wrecked vehicle, which posed significant challenges due to its condition.
Once extricated, the driver was handed over to paramedics for on-site treatment before being taken to the health clinic for further medical attention.
The extent of injuries sustained by both victims was not unknown.
After ensuring that the situation was safe, the team ended the rescue operation at 7.50pm.
