KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to seven months in prison for possessing 0.04g of methamphetamine in May this year.
Mahzdir, 45, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi to the charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
If convicted, he could face a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years in prison, or both.
Mahzdir was in possession of methamphetamine in front of a house in Taman Sukma around 11.45am on May 12.
Based on the case facts, police raided the house and arrested the man believed to be involved in drug activities.
Inspections led to the seizure of a plastic straw containing crystalline substances that was in his hand.
A chemist’s report confirmed that the substance was indeed methamphetamine weighing 0.04g.
ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case while Mahzdir was unrepresented by counsel.
