SYDNEY: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been invited by the Sarawak Australia Business Chamber (SABC) as its Chief Patron.
This invitation was extended during Abang Johari’s official visit to Sydney.
Rodger Chan Siong Boh, President of SABC, underscored Abang Johari’s pivotal role as the Patron in advancing the SABC’s objectives and enhancing the trade relations between Sarawak and Australia.
“SABC is dedicated to collaborating closely with the business communities and governments of Australia and Sarawak to bolster and cultivate bilateral trade and relations between these regions.
“In addition to Australia, SABC stands as a founding member and primary partner of the Borneo Economic Community (BEC) initiated by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council. BEC comprises community, government, and business leaders from Indonesian Kalimantan, Brunei, Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan.
“Borneo emerges as a green economy powerhouse with Sarawak leading ASEAN in green energy and serving as Indonesia’s new green capital. Abundant opportunities await Australian companies to collaborate with SABC, not only in Sarawak but also in Borneo and across ASEAN,” he stated in a recent announcement.
He further conveyed his belief that Abang Johari’s acceptance of the role of SABC’s Patron would greatly inspire the Chamber to champion the green economy and fulfil its mandate of advancing trade and economic connections between Sarawak, Borneo, and Australia.
“Abang Johari commands high respect in Australia and the region for his leadership in the green economy, renewable energy, hydrogen, and circular economy.
“SABC has forged partnerships and signed MOUs with the Australia Malaysia Business Council (AMBC) across various Australian states, including AMBC Victoria, AMBC Queensland, and AMBC New South Wales. The Chamber is currently in the process of finalizing MOUs with AMBC in Western Australia and South Australia,” he added.
In response, Abang Johari graciously accepted the appointment, reaffirming his dedication to supporting SABC’s initiatives, as well as fostering trade and relations between Sarawak and Australia.
