SIBU: A total of 10,000 participants joined Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi in a Fun Walk held here today (Aug 31), as part of the Sarawak-level National Day Celebration.
The programme was flagged off by the Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk John Sikie Tayai, who also oversees the 2024 Sarawak State-Level National Day celebration.
Along the 2.4-kilometre fun walk, Wan Junaidi and the participants waved the Jalur Gemilang and Ibu Pertiwi flags as the Sudirman song “31 Ogos” played from the Information Department’s Info on Wheels vehicle.
Earlier, the event kicked off with an aerobics session at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase I.
A multiracial, multiethnic, and multireligious community participated in the event that started as early as 7 am, reflecting strong unity and solidarity.
Also present were Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee and Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee.
