MIRI: A large tree was uprooted along the road leading to Lutong from Pulau Melayu on Saturday afternoon (Aug 31), causing a temporary obstruction on the busy route.

The incident occurred after a bout of strong winds and heavy rain.

Emergency services were alerted to the situation at 2.53pm and responded promptly.

A team of four firefighters from the Lutong Fire Station was dispatched to clear the road of debris.

According to fire station chief, Henry Jugah, the firefighters received assistance from staff members of the nearby Piasau Boat Club, villagers, and Sarawak Energy Berhad personnel.

“The cooperation between our team and the local community was vital in ensuring the road was cleared as quickly as possible,” Henry said.

The operation, which involved cutting the fallen tree into manageable pieces, lasted nearly one hour.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
