KUCHING: The National Day 2024 celebration at Kampung Sungai Lajim, also known as Kampung No. 5, was marked by enthusiasm and a distinct charm that highlighted the harmony and unity within the local community.
This year’s celebration was thoughtfully planned to include all age groups, from children to the elderly, with a range of engaging and creative activities taking place throughout the village.
One of the most anticipated events was the poetry recital, where young participants had the opportunity to recite poems about independence and love for the country.
This activity encouraged creativity, public speaking confidence, and a stronger sense of patriotism among both participants and spectators.
Another highlight was the national-themed pudding decoration contest, where individuals or teams decorated puddings using the colours of the Jalur Gemilang or elements representing the nation’s history and culture.
This contest combined culinary skills with creativity, fostering a love for the nation through the art of cooking.
The mini Merdeka sculpture competition also garnered significant interest, with participants creating small sculptures symbolising independence using materials found around the village and promoted teamwork and creativity, as well as the spirit of perseverance and independence.
Additionally, a patriotic song karaoke competition added to the lively and festive atmosphere.
Overall, the National Day 2024 celebration at Kampung Sungai Lajim was more than an opportunity to showcase creativity and patriotism; it also helped to strengthen community bonds and fostered a sense of pride and love for the country among the villagers.
The event was graced by the presence of the Temenggong of Kuching Division Abdullah Jamel, Penghulu Omar Ini, village head Salmiah Muhi and head of the Women’s Wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Branch Salina Salleh.
