BINTULU: SMK Samalaju, reportedly the most modern secondary school in Sarawak, is set to be completed by January 2025 and with its first cohort of students expected to begin classes in the second quarter of the year.
The RM57.6 million project will include 36 classrooms, 24 teacher housing units, and an administration block.
The school will also be equipped with essential infrastructure facilities such as a surau, dining hall, multipurpose hall and football field.
Recently, Samalaju assemblyman Datuk Majang Renggi visited the site to inspect the progress of the construction works.
He said it is important to have cooperation among the contractors, government agencies, and the local community to ensure the successful completion of the school.
SMK Samalaju will cater to both day students and boarding students, with two dormitory blocks capable of accommodating up to 450 students.
Once completed, SMK Samalaju will serve the local community, particularly secondary school students from areas along the Pan Borneo Highway, Bintulu-Miri Road, Bintulu-Bakun Road, Bintulu-Nyalau Coastal Road, Samalaju Industrial Park, and the surrounding palm oil plantation sector.
