KUCHING: Police have approved the applications of 18 outlets here to sell fireworks this Chinese New Year.
In his monthly parade address, Kuching police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek said another 18 applications are still under process while four were rejected.
He said altogether 40 applications to sell fireworks were received.
Ng went on to say that the police are particular about the types or brand names of fireworks allowed to be sold, and these are Happy Boom Glow of Sunset, Happy Boom Sun Sparkles, Happy Boom Glories, Happy Boom Fountain, Happy Boom Peacock Fountain, Happy Boom Happiness Fountain, Happy Boom Ground Bloom Flower, Happy Boom Fireworks, Happy Boom Top Gun, Happy Boom Flower Camerlia, Happy Boom Flower Silver Cracking, Happy Boom Pili Cracker, Happy Boom Red Cracker, Happy Boom Red Cracker (cake) and Happy Boom Celebration Red Fire.
He warned the approved sellers that conditions attached to the approval must be complied with in full or their permit will be withdrawn.
The conditions include only getting the fireworks through Syarikat Amflex Sdn Bhd and their quality must be of a specified standard.
Besides, sellers are allowed to sell only for 15 days until February 20 and they are not to keep stock at home or in their outlets. Stocks are only allowed to be taken daily.
Unsold fireworks must be returned to the wholesaler.
Ng also urged those who play fireworks to be careful and children must be supervised by adults when playing.
He added that the police will not hesitate to take action against anyone in possession of banned firecrackers and fireworks.
