MUKAH: An elderly man, who fell into Batang Oya during a collision between a speedboat and a riverboat on Monday (Sept 2), was found drowned today.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said Dos Katiek, 79, was discovered floating in the river by his grandson at 12.30 am.
The body was spotted near Lebrasau Dalat area, about 1km from the accident scene.
Following the discovery, Dos’ body was handed over to the police and transported to Dalat Hospital for family identification. It is reported that the body will be referred to Mukah Hospital for a post mortem.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation ended at 1.45 am.
Last Monday, the accident happened around 7.20 am between Kampung Sua and Kampung Klid Oya.
It is understood that his boat collided with a speedboat, causing him to fall into the river.
