BINTULU: Swift action by firefighters prevented a workshop from being engulfed by flames after its hydraulic cutting and punching machines caught fire early this morning.

The incident happened around 1.18am along Jalan Sungai Nyigu here.

Firefighters from Bintulu station was deployed to the scene, about 7km away, after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, they found the fire occurred in the spare parts store room on the upper floor of the workshop.

The extinguishing tasks were performed and overhaul works followed suit to ensure that there was no risk of reignition.

It was reported that five per cent of the room was damaged, with the ceiling affected by fire soot.

The team ended theIR operation at 2.05 am. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
