KUCHING: The Kuching Love Book Association will host their thirteenth blood donation campaign at the new building of the Kuching Life Care Society in Desa Wira from 9 am to 2 pm this Sunday (Sept 8).

The supporting units, the Blood Bank of Sarawak General Hospital, and the Malaysian Red Crescent, Kuching Branch, are deeply appreciative of the Kuching Life Care Society for offering their premises for this noble cause.

‘The Blood Donation Campaign 13.0 is an answer to the call of the Blood Bank of Sarawak General Hospital to address the issue of insufficient blood supply,’ as stated in a press release yesterday (Sep 5).

‘We encourage individuals from all backgrounds to actively participate and endorse this significant blood donation event to assist those in critical need of blood. A single blood donation can save the lives of three individuals,’ the statement added.

As per the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Center, various blood components are separated during the blood processing phase. Following tests for viruses and bacteria, these components are utilized to treat a variety of illnesses.

Subsequently, from a single blood pack (comprising red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, plasma, coagulation factors, and other blood constituents), treatment can be provided to three or more patients.

Individuals weighing 45 kg and above who are at least 18 years old are eligible to donate blood. Those who are 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The blood donation procedure typically lasts between five to thirty minutes, contingent on the individual’s health.

Prospective donors are advised to ensure they have had a minimum of five hours of sleep, and a proper breakfast and have refrained from consuming alcoholic beverages for eight hours prior.

The first 80 donors who successfully contribute will receive a token of appreciation in the form of a gift bag. This package includes an eco-friendly bag, a face towel, a stress ball, five kilogrammes of white rice, Milo, Nestum, a cooling water bottle, and biscuits.

The founder and chairperson of the Kuching Love Book Association, May Loo Hun Ing, expressed her gratitude to the sponsors: 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, Everrise Departmental Store Sdn Bhd, and Wecare Bakery.
