Man jailed five months for house-breaking and theft

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to five months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court for breaking into a house and stealing an Apple electronic device.

Alexander Maxwell Buma Amoi pleaded guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.

He was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code for trespassing into a house compound and stealing an AirPod belonging to an 18-year-old male teenager.

This section provides for a penalty of up to 14 years in prison or a fine upon conviction.

He committed the offence at a house on Jalan Rubber here on May 7.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant lodged a police report after discovering his car was in disarray and his AirPod was missing.

The estimated loss sustained by the complainant is around RM1,200.

A police report was filed for further action and investigation, leading to the arrest of the accused on the same day.

The investigation revealed Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage showing Alexander entering the complainant’s house compound and stealing the AirPod kept in the complainant’s unlocked car.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
