KUCHING: Heartfelt congratulations continue to pour in for Sarawak’s para powerlifter Bonnie Bunyau Gustin following his historic achievement at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
National and state leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii and Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, were were among those who praised Bonnie for his incredible achievement.
Fadillah, in a Facebook post, described Bonnie as someone who is extraordinary.
“I, together with the whole of Malaysia, am proud of you,” he said.
Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh who was present to witness Bonnie’s victory in Paris, also expressed her gratitude to Bonnie for securing another gold for Malaysia.
“Malaysians love you Bonnie Bunyau. Thank you for presenting the gold medal to Malaysia,” she said.
The National Sports Council also took to social media to celebrate Bonnie’s triumph.
“Gold is ours! Bonnie Bunyau Gustin has proven once again that he remains unbeatable by breaking the world record with 232kg and successfully defending his second personal gold medal,” it said.
The Ministry of Education echoed these sentiments, praising Bonnie for his exceptional achievement.
“He has proven himself to be in a class of his own by breaking both the world and Paralympic records. Thank you, Bonnie, for inspiring all of us,” it said.
Malaysia’s national football team, Harimau Malaya, also expressed their pride in Bonnie’s success, paying tribute with an adorable comic-like illustration that captured his strength and determination.
The Paralympic Council of Malaysia also joined in, expressing their pride in Bonnie’s remarkable performance.
