SIBU: The Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) Kiew Nang and Kenari brought smiles and joy to over 80 children with special needs from SJK (C) Thai Kwang by organising a special outing to SMI Park here yesterday (Sept 6).

The event, jointly organised with the school, aimed to offer these children an opportunity to experience the outdoors, create lasting memories, build connections and support their overall growth.

The committee chairperson, Kapitan Connie Loh, said while formal education is vital, education extends beyond the classroom, adding that children get to experience the world through outdoor activities.

“For children with special needs, these moments of interaction and play are not just fun, they are essential,” she said in his speech at the event.

She added that the programme’s objectives were to provide the children with an environment where they could explore, interact and feel included.

“Outdoor activities like the ones we have planned today are especially important. They offer our children the opportunity to experience the world beyond the confines of a classroom. Here, they can stretch their legs, explore their surroundings, and engage in activities tailored to their abilities.

“We know that when a child with special needs is encouraged to be as independent as possible, the positive effects of today’s event is a step towards that independence, towards empowering our children to be the best they can be,” she added.

She also gave thanks to parents and teachers for making the event a success.

Also present were Sibu Division Unity Department Officer Jendi Mangku and District Officer Wee Teck Min represented by Sylvia Lau.
