MIRI: The Taman Tunku-Lusut Traffic Light Project has been approved according to Deputy Health Minister and Sibuti Member of Parliament, Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
In a recent Facebook post, Lukanisman announced that the project, which aimed at improving the traffic flow in the area, was given approval by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
The Miri City Council (MCC) is responsible for implementing the project.
“The project is currently in the design phase, and the tender process is expected to begin soon. We anticipate that the project will be completed by the first quarter of 2025,” he stated.
He emphasised that the application for the traffic light project had been submitted for some time, but the high costs involved had previously prevented it from being realised due to limited parliamentary provisions.
Lukanisman also highlighted the importance of the project in enhancing road safety, stating that the installation of the traffic lights would help reduce the number of accidents and encourage more cautious driving.
The traffic lights will be located at Taman Tunku ‘mini roundabout’ route near the Sibuti Parliamentary Community Service Centre, an area prone to traffic congestion.
This development is expected to greatly ease traffic flow and address the long-standing concerns of Taman Tuanku and Lusut residents.
